iTunes Agent passes 200.000 downloads

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

My open source project, iTunes Agent, recently passed 200.000 downloads! A steady download rate of between 150 and 200 downloads per day shows that the project is still helping a lot of people using their media players with iTunes.

I recently brought a new developer on board the project as well. This should speed up the release frequency and we have some pretty cool ideas in mind for the next major release which will be version 2.0. There will be more info about this on the project website as soon as we see a 2.0. release on the horizon.

For now, a big thank you to everyone using the application and providing useful feedback and contributions!

Wrath of the Lich King cinematic trailer unveiled

The cinematic trailer for Wrath of the Lich King - the second expansion to the MMORPG World of Warcraft was released yesterday! As usual the animators at Blizzard Entertainment mange to make the hair stand on your back and give you goose bumps all over. I mean, all over!

Take a look for yourself. I know what I will be playing come November / December (hopefully) :)

Songbird finally in beta!

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

I’ve been following the project for quite a while now, and tested out most of the Preview releases they have made available, mostly for addon developers etc. But almost every release has been really to unstable or lacking important features, so I have ended up going back to Amarok after just a few hours.

Yesterday, however, the first Beta release of Songbird was made available. The project is now considered mature enough for the public to start using it. And I must say I am impressed. The layout of the application have gotten a huge facelift, making it feel more solid and it performs many times better than what I experienced with some of the Preview releases. This is just great. It is iTunes coming to Linux, for me. Of course, Songbird is also available to OSX and Windows users.

Songbird promises to be the Firefox of media players.

There are still some features I would like to see integrated without the need for addons etc and a few minor bugs, which I am sure will be fixed in a near bugfix release. But the version that’s out is actually very usable and will most likely end up being my primary media player on Linux from now on :) Perhaps on Windows as well…. the few times I hang around there.

It’s been way too long since last time I pulled a prank on someone. Last time we wrapped my friend Bent’s office in plastic wrapping. This time it was Aleksander’s turn…

Summer and festivals

Friday, August 8th, 2008

I realize I have been terrible at updating this thing lately. It’s summer, things are slow, and so is keeping the blog updated.

I has been a good summer so far, I haven’t had that much holidays, but I have managed to see some sun and also had a visit to Hove Festivalen and of course the best festival of them all; Skral Festival!

Skral has been this summers best moment so far. A bunch of great bands playing, possibly the best camp and fairly nice weather :) This year me and a few friends decided we wanted to participate in the camping part of the festival as well, even though most of us live only a few minutes away by car. We had tents, a party tent, the whole deal. However, I only slept about 4 hours in total in the tent, because as the hours went by the bed at home, only a few minutes away by taxi was too tempting :) I am not much of a camping guy. I like a little comfort. Especially when it’s that available. But the important part was to experience the atmosphere and crazy life in the camp, and you don’t get that while sleeping.

There was a lot of good music this year. Some of the best moments were Kent, Madrugada, Superfamily and of course the singing under our party tent till 6 in the morning. A legendary moment :)

I have some pictures and I will see if I can update this blog with some of those later.

Update: Pictures! :)
